Modesto Junior College Agriculture Program

With one of the most comprehensive community college agriculture programs in the country, MJC's agriculture curriculum encompasses 18 Associate of Science Degrees and 11 Technician Certificates. Commitment to excellence is evident in the instructional program, which utilizes "state-of-the-art" technology and practical hands-on approaches to student learning. Industry collaboration has always been a "hallmark" of the Modesto Junior College Agriculture Program.

The Modesto Junior College Agriculture and Environmental Sciences Program offers a unique relationship with local high school agriculture programs and at Stanislaus State University – Stanislaus, Agriculture Studies Program creating a 2+2+2 program.

California State University – Stanislaus, Agriculture Studies Program

Students are encouraged to explore diverse approaches to agricultural production, distribution, and management in evolving economic and environmental settings in this program. Experiential learning and applied research opportunities are offered through concentrations. The major fosters sustainable relationships with area community colleges through the implementation of a “2+2” program design. Individuals who have an A.S. degree or equivalent in lower-division course work in Agriculture, Agriculture Science, Agricultural Economics and closely related fields, and who complete the designated lower-division prerequisite courses, may participate in the program.

Turlock Unified School District (Turlock High School and Pitman High School)

These two high schools incorporate a strong agriculture component to meet the needs of the local community. TUSD has established two quality programs at each high school. Pathways have been developed to meet the needs of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Sector. Of the district courses offered in each of the pathway, two meet A-G requirements (Integrated Ag Biology and Art and History of Floral Design); two more are in the developmental stage (Ag and Environmental Science and Ag Economics) and should be finished and submitted within two years; currently 8 courses meet high school graduation requirements for life and physical science; and 10 courses are 2+2 articulated with the local community colleges both as single courses (2 to 3 units) and also as pathway programs (6 to 9 units). Agriculture staff members continuously seek input and guidance from the Agriculture Advisory Committee members, local college instructors and industry partners for determining the offerings and direction for the agriculture programs.
